Overview of Myasthenia Gravis

Introduction

The collections of tissues that help in the movement of the body are collectively called as the muscular system. The different movement activities of the body like walking, running and jumping are all possible by the contraction and relaxation of the muscles. The muscles also help in the small activities of the body like speaking, blinking, movement of blood, movement of food and many more (faqs.org 2013).

Discussion

Anatomy of the muscular system

The muscular system consists of the three types of tissues that are the cardiac tissues, visceral tissues and the skeletal tissues.

Visceral muscles

The visceral muscles are found in the internal organs of the body and they are the most delicate tissues of the muscular system. They are also known as the involuntary muscles because they are controlled by the brain and cannot be controlled consciously smooth muscles because they appear to be smooth (innerbody.com).

Cardiac muscles

The muscles which make up the heart are called as the cardiac muscles and they help in the pumping of blood throughout the body. They are also called as the involuntary muscles of the body. The cardiac muscles consist of striated cells. These cells are tightly connected with each other by intercalated disks and these disks have the ability to resist the high blood pressure (innerbody.com).

Skeletal muscles

They are the voluntary muscles of the body that is they can be controlled by the humans themselves. A skeletal muscle contract and brings the organs closer to the bones. Small cells combine to form the long, multi nucleated tissues.

The muscle fibers are surrounded by a membrane called as sarcolemma and its function is to conduct the impulses that are generated for the stimulation of the muscles. T tubules are connected to the sarcolemma and they help in ...
