Introduction

Oscar Pistorius is a sprint runner of South Africa. Both of his legs were amputated from below the knee when he was only eleven months old, he takes parts in events which are for able-bodied athletes and single below knee amputees. Oscar Pistorius was the first amputee in winning the world track medal of able-bodied in the World Championships in Athletics in 2011. In the Summer Olympics of 2012, he was the first double leg amputee to take part in Olympics when he entered the 4 x 400 meters relay and 400 meters men's races. In the Paralympics of 2012, he was able to win gold medal in both of these races and he was also able to set a world record in both of these events. He was also able to win a silver medal in 200 meters race.

Pistorius was given the Order of Ikhamanga in Bronze for his outstanding performance and achievements in sports in 2006 by the President of South Africa. He has also been awarded the Sports personality of the year award by BBC for his achievement and courage while facing adversity in 2007. In 2008, he made it to the Time magazine's list of most influential people. He has caused a paradigm shift by making disability his ability, and his disadvantage into his advantage. His girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp aged 30 died on the Valentine Day and he has been accused of her murder.

The romance between the country's biggest sporting exports and the model took a tragic turn on Valentine's Day.
