Introduction

City College has been planning to acquire Abbey College, a former we established independent secondary college. This acquisition will be done within 6 months. Because of recent economic downfall, Abbey College had been facing administration issues. Thus the shareholders decided to sell the college to City College. As per the acquisition terms and conditions, the staff of Abbey College will be merged with the Staff of City College. In this way, the contracts of employment for the staff of Abbey College will be renewed. While the principle of Abbey College will be redundant, as the team of Abbey College will report to Principal of City College.

In this paper, we will develop consultancy report for the management of City College. This report will discuss the relationship between organization and culture and its effect on the performance of City College after the acquisition of Abbey College. Furthermore, we will discuss the factors which affect the individual behaviour at workplace while change management takes place. Furthermore, we will explain management theories together with emphasis on management practices. In addition to it, the paper will discuss nature and behaviour of group together with intellectual nature of Staff of Abbey College and the significance of their behaviour in comparison to the upper management. In last the paper will discuss the factors that will result in effective teamwork together with effect of technology on City College.

Discussion

The organizational structure of Abbey College is flatter and wider. However the structure of City College is tall and narrow. These differences can have influences on the organizational performances. In this section, we will discuss the comparison of these structures and the cultures of both the colleges in order to study their possible effects on City College after acquisition.

Organizational Structures and Cultures and Their Differences

Abbey College is a smaller organization with a flatter organizational structure. This type of organizational structure is shaped by small number of people in workforce. Most of the time employees directly report to the leadership of the owner or operator of the organization s compared to the management of middle management or departmental heads. In this structure, the organizational settings and performances are connected since employees have all the knowledge that management is cognizant of their individual practices and performances (Ashkanasy & Humphrey, 2011, pp. 214-224). They can influence the performance positively and inspire the employee participations between them. Specialization of work is the core element of this organizational structure. In Abbey College, there were several departments. The workers performed their particular tasks. They performed their duties again and again in order that they were trained and specialized in their duties. They have become cost effective and efficient. These people are able to perform more in less input. Moreover, decision making is decentralized. Employees are encouraged to take part in decision making.
