Introduction

Q1) how can Carol reduce the problem

Carol the operation manager of the space age furniture company is currently facing the problems of employee frustration and stress because of excessive workload, particularly employees that are involved in the production of item no 3079 because it necessitate machine on a particular lathe that is used for the production of part no 3079(Fox et al, 2001). These issues comes under Carlos observation when one of the employee Ed Szewczak who is known to be expert of operating lathe machine and other production machines raised his reservation regarding continuous overtime working(Griffiths et al, 2011).

Coral is aware of the fact the Ed is working in the country from considerable period, and is the most trustworthy, excellent and reliable employee of the company, and knows the fact it is not easy to hire experience machine operator like Ed. The problem of employee frustration currently faced by the operation manager of the company has the potential of getting worse if not handled urgently; however, Carol can mitigate this prevailing problem by adopting the following steps.

Through team effectiveness process

In most of the organization issues, related to excessive workload on employees is not addressed, primarily because management feels that it is an ongoing process (Krishnamurthy & Yauch, 2007). However, in case of Carlo although it is an ongoing process but its entire pressure is on the shoulder of one employee and this can have a negative impact on the performance of the employee. In this situation, management can implement the team effectiveness process that is efficiently implemented by companies like Dell, IBM and others.

With the help of this process, management of Space Age Furniture Company can conduct in-depth analysis on about the root cause of extensive workload on Ed (Max & Qi, 2007). In addition to this, management as per this process would formulate a team that would extensively monitor the production process of item 3079 and would identify the factors that could reduce the workload from the employee (Mula et al, 2006). Moreover, management would need to distribute the workload of ED by formulating a team of employees that are currently working in the production department, for example, if ED perform different task in a particular day then management can distribute portion of his task to other team members and would instruct ED to monitor the activities of team members.

Increasing motivation level

Every employee whether new of experience require certain level of motivation that would encourage them to perform more enthusiastically towards the accomplishment of their goals. Carol values the services rendered by Ed towards the growth of the company and knows that he is the most experience and trustworthy employees of the company (Shah & Goh, 2006). Recently Ed is earning around $22 per hour and addition 50 percent premium for working overtime, and works forty hours a week and addition extra hours that during the production of 3079 is uncountable.
