According to the 2012 list of the Fortune Global, the company is the third largest public corporation in the world. In the present world, which has more than two million employees, Wal-Mart is also ranked as one of the biggest private employers in the world. The business run by Wal-Mart is a family-owned business, since Walton family owns and controls the company and has a stake of 48% in Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is considered to be one of the companies having the biggest worth across the globe (Troy, Mike, 2011).
It was in the year 1962 that Sam Walton established the company and incorporated it n the year 1969. The headquarters of the company is located in Bentonville, Arkansas. In the United States, Wal-Mart is also the largest grocery retailer. Wal-Mart operates more than 8,500 stores which are functional in over 15 countries, and are managed and controlled under 55 different names. In the United States, the company functions under the name Wal-Mart, and has the same name in 50 other states which also include Puerto Rico. In Mexico, the company runs under the name Walmex, in Japan as Seiyu, in the United Kingdom as Asda, and in India as Best Price. Besides this, in other countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Canada, it has various names that are used to symbolize the Wal-Mart brands. The investment of Wal-Mart outside North America have provided a blend of results: the operations of the company in South America, United Kingdom, and China are the most successful, while its other business ventures in South Korea and Germany are very unsuccessful.
