Company overview

Air India is India's national flag carrier. It was founded by J R D TATA on 15th October 1932 as Tata Airlines. After World War II, Tata airlines became a public limited company in 1946 under the name Air India . Now it is state owned and administered as a part of the National Aviation Company of India Limited .The head Quarters are situated at Nariman Point, Mumbai.It is the sixth largest airline in Asia serving fleet of airbus and Boeing aircrafts to Asia,Australia, Europe and North America.

Currently it has a fleet of 121 aircrafts including 91 (owned) 8 (sale & lease back) and 22 (dry lease).The logo of Air India is a red coloured flying a swan with the Konark Chakra in orange placed inside it. The management of Air India is managed by a Board Of Directors Comprising 9 people which are from the Indian Administrative Services and other sectors. Mr Rohit Nandan is the currently Chairman and Managing Director of Air India.

Air India has faced many escalating financial losses and discontent amongs employees during the last few years. For example, between September 2007 and 2011 Air India's domestic share declined from 19.2% to 14%. The human resource of the company also plays a very important role in the success of the company, as the employees of the company has a definite rule and set of instructions that they have to follow in the processes in the company, the services of the company are defined and should be practiced at every single flight of Air India airlines according to the company's instructions, because the HR processes designed by the management of the company is unique and they are defined in such a way, such that the after following that set of steps, the success of the business process is sure.

Air India is showing great growth in the business, and as Air India recruits peoples from diverse backgrounds and culture, therefore it is becoming even more difficult for them to manage the workforce conflict that often arouses because of different backgrounds, this is the only problem that the company is facing as the human resource of the company, and the workforce of the company had increased to a much larger extent in the past years. While Air India provides travel services, Dnata the other group of Air India provides, cargo and ground services, it is becoming more and more difficult for the corporation to handle the workforce in both the groups.
