Introduction
In today's fast changing global economy, organisations are evolving rapidly leaving individuals to rush along in their wake. They are being swept up as the race towards globalisation reaches its peak. Global recessions, as they come and go have also left an impact on individuals and their need to work, be it with or without the basic benefits afforded to all (McFadden et al, 2001 p 3). Alongside the various technological and lifestyle benefits that all employees are currently reaping, there may be many disadvantages to this new system.
The target of this essay is to highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages that each individual is faced with in the global village our world is turning into. A typical example of this situation can be the invasion of privacy that all employees face from their respective employers versus the benefits they might collect for services rendered. However, the question remains, is the individual in danger of being dwarfed by the demanding circumstances that he/she has to work and live in specially during or after recessions, or are they really independent of their circumstances and masters of their own destinies. At the same time, this fast evolution of technology is changing the nature of jobs which makes it more difficult but very important for organisations to preserve a work environment which ensures motivation and job satisfaction for all individuals (Kizza, 2010, p 151).
Lack of Privacy and Freedom
A major problem faced by all workers, be they vice presidents or office staff, is the loss of privacy which inevitably leads to loss of their freedom. Employers across the globe have adopted increasingly invasive methods of monitoring and tracking their employees for various reasons. Employers for various reasons like fear of data theft keep regular check on each workers emails, incoming or outgoing which is serious violation of their privacy . It may be said that all individuals working for all small businesses to large corporations have become 'company assets.' They are no longer treated as valuable human resource but rather as possessions the organisation has acquired by providing them with remuneration.
Employees are also constantly supervised by their employers in this age of technology, through their data flow which is ethically and morally wrong. They are regularly monitored through their emails etc, which is invasive of their basic privacy rights. It can be argued that organisations which make their workers sign non-disclosure forms should not further invade their privacy by such a strict and relentless check (Kizza, 2010, p 152).
A classic example may be of an employee on vacation time, who is constantly connected to his/her office through mobile phones or emails. This might be by choice of the individual or due to undue pressure by the ...
