Introduction

Employees give a significant part of their lives at job, so it is not unanticipated that they look forward to be awarded and contented with the task they perform. Here comes motivation that involves people carrying out daily tasks at workplace and encourages them to perform in a certain manner. It is important to understand what motivates employees in the organization. It has been proved by research that motivated workers are more satisfied at workplace. Motivated workers get more contentment from their task, work hard, loyal towards organization and contribute positively (Dubrin, 2004). This paper will indentify the concept of motivation and apply it in a real organization, Kellogg. The paper will address how Kellogg encourages its employees and how the exercise of motivational theories aids to shape the company as a great workplace.

LO 3 Motivational Theories in Organizations

There are many motivational theories that makes attempt to portray what encourages employees to perform in a certain manner. These theories can be used in the organizational settings to direct light into why some people work hard and are more loyal than others, which can guide leaders to recognize how to encourage every worker to carry out work in a best manner.

P7: Leadership Styles and Motivation

Intrinsic in the descriptions of leader and leadership style is the concept of motivation. People usually think about motion, satisfying desires, inactivity, changing phase and influence when they think about motivational aspect. Leadership styles involve more about dealing with people, in order, to motivate them in the transition phase of the organization. Supportive leadership style will always motivate people to accept change phase in the workplace and put across clear cut policies to avoid vagueness. Authoritarianism style of leadership will make people to resist from change as leaders in this style mainly concerned with the task completion rather than people.

P8: Application of Motivational Theory within Workplace

Maslow Motivational Theory relates with the hierarchal structure of people needs. At the bottom there are basic needs, like food, shelter and clothing. As people satisfy basic level of need, their motivations change as they seek to arrive at the high order needs and they go one step forward (Mcreynolds, 2012). Thus, to inspire a worker, Maslow recommends that it is essential to identify where in the hierarchal structure each worker is positioned so that these features can be considered.

In Kellogg's every worker is stimulated to function throughout each of these stages. As they accomplish so, this gives positive results for every worker and the organization. For exemplar:

Basic Requirements - Kellogg gives attractive wages to its workforce. This offers employees the way to attain the physiological requirements. Kellogg has also offered benefit program that is flexible in nature and lets workforce to select those benefits that fit them well, like child care coupons and reasonable life insurance plans.
