ABSTRACT

Sustainable development is probably one of the most often used phrases that policy makers are using to deliver their ideas of how cities should be developed today, but by what exactly do they mean? The rise of the concept sustainable development and the frequency they have been used is arguably at the highest level we have ever seen to the extent that it is a phrase that every document “must” have regarding planning and policymaking. This research has made an effort to study whether we could operationalize sustainable development through Transit Oriented Development (TOD), with the case study of Brisbane, Australia. This research had applied the case study methodology and used both primary and secondary methods of research to gather data and analyse data. This research has discovered that TOD had played a very good role in the achieving sustainable development in Brisbane, Australia.
