Introduction

The growing proportion of older people worldwide is faster than any other age group as it producing a rapidly aging population and increased life expectancy. No doubt, this increase in life expectancy is the result of social or socio-political and socio-economic growth which implies a rethinking of concepts and proposals from society (Williams et al., 2007). There has been a long debate whether old age people can become agent for change. It can be seen that old age people has been the agent for change in many cases from smoking cessation to diet issues as well as in various areas from education to health (LaSala & Todd, 2000). However, recognizing their role as change agent is a challenge that can be met only with specific information and programs on old age population and through the promotion of a positive image of older people. This is essential to not only increase their active role in society but also to set example for other generations (Roberts, 2005).

In fact, it is necessary to rely on developing a healthy lifestyle, physical and mental training through recognition of skills and competences, promoting equal opportunities, encouraging self-esteem and participation of older people in society, from their experience, training, values, focusing on the role of family and community (Dalrymple, 2003). Active aging allows an old person to become active to play a positive role in the capacity of change agent. However, it is based on gender and inter-generationality, promoting equal opportunities and personal autonomy. Overall, active aging policies contribute to economic development and competitiveness of European regions, influencing the market, in society and in job creation.

It is important to know that a change agent is the one who takes responsibility where others make excuses, gets to see the possibilities in a situation where others see limitations, can create in others the ability to dream, and he or she is the one who inspires others with a vision of what they can contribute. There is no doubt about the fact old age people need attention from others but they also have capabilities to inspire and educate others. It is important to understand that there is a universal call to change (Cunningham ...
