Oedipus The King -Sophocles

Introduction

Several examples of classics and masterpieces can be found in English literature, that are divided into various classes and parts and each of them is special and unusual in its own way. it should be noted that out of hundreds of thousands of stories and pieces of literature, only a few survive and gain the status of being classics, thus proving the fact that these are truly different from the rest and deserve the extraordinary position that they are granted. Sophocles composes that the characters in the plays are chastising not as a result of something they had done in the past yet simply it is their destiny(Sophocles and McGuinness, pp. 49-53). Sophocles wrote many important works. Projects which have been in the history of world thought and reflection in general .. And it could be done differently if we consider the famous tragedies still playing not only at Epidaurus, but also in other parts of Greece and the world.

Sophocles was one of the three most famous and renowned Greek tragedians of all times, who succeeded in surviving the era.

Discussion

Oedipus is a man of great insight and swift action. At the opening of Oedipus the King, we observe that the aforementioned values make him a superb ruler who suspects his subjects requirements. Any time the natives of Thebes importune him to do something in regards to the disease, for instance, Oedipus is one stage beyond them he has as of recently sent Creon to the prophet at Delphi for consultation. Anyhow later, we see that Oedipus propensity of acting quickly has a perilous side. It should be noted that according to the records, Sophocles is said to have written a total of 123 plays during his lifetime, but only seven of them succeeded in retaining their original form while the other were altered and thus wasted, wither partly or completely. The seven plays of Sophocles that survived the circumstances and continued to retain their original shape include: Ajax, Antigone, The Women of Trachis, Oedipus the King, Electra, Philoctetes and Oedipus at Colonus (Keitlen, 2003).
