Oedipus the King,

While Oedipus is the king of Thebes, to his palace, citizens came ask him for help against the plague that decimated the kingdom and making sterile agriculture as well as animals and women. Since it also suffers from this situation, like Oedipus and remedy ad it has already sent Creon, the brother of his wife Jocasta, to consult the oracle this regard.

The return of Creon, he explained that according to the oracle, the plague comes from unsolved murder of the former king of Thebes, Laius. While Oedipus is committed to shed light on this event, and he decides to investigate to discover and punish the guilty. To this end, he summons Tiresias, a seer, who though blind, has the faculty of clairvoyance undoubtedly useful to his investigation. First Tiresias refuses to reveal what he knows. But after it have been forced Tiresias reveals that Oedipus himself is the culprit that research. The seer said that the culprit is also brother and father his children, son and husband of the woman who gave birth.

Far from being able to assimilate such an accusation, Oedipus suspects rather than Tiresias and Creon of plotting to try to seize the throne. But Jocasta soothes and trivializes the budding feud about Tiresias: no not, without risk of being wrong, correctly interpret the oracles. She cites as evidence a prediction announced that Laius would die of her son's hand and, in the words of a servant survivor, was Laius murdered by robbers at the crossroads of Delphi and Daul. But Oedipus is not satisfied either. He recalls a distant time when, during a party, a drunk was told he was a foundling. However, Oedipus has always believed that her parents were Polybius and Merope, king and Queen of Corinth. Tormented ...
