Introduction

The Odyssey is one of the two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. This is partly a sequel to the book "The Iliad", also the poet Homer, or at least I think. From, the standpoint, of literary analysis must consider, it is essential that a work written towards the end of the eighth century BC in Ionia somewhere in the coastal region of modern Turkey.

This poem is mainly based on the Greek hero Odysseus, also known as Ulysses in the Roman world and discusses the long journey home after the fall of Troy. Ulysses will travel for 10 years back home, after another 10-year war against Troy. During these 20 years, presumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachos see them and want them to treat a whole host of people competing to win over this woman. However, Penelope is a widow and something inside keeps forgetting the Ulysses.

This work is written in ancient Greek, and that is how they read in their own country, but obviously been translated into modern languages, and thousands of such work are one of the most read of the world. The original poem believed to come from oral tradition, a kind of rhapsody intended to be sung rather than to be read. Despite the centuries, remains a controversial work that raises the most interesting debates about its composition. It consists of 12,110 lines.
