Introduction

The movement of “occupy wall street” is a continued movement which started on the September 17, 2011. This movement was started in the Zuccotti Park, which is located in the state of New York of the United States of America. This park is exactly located on the New York City's Wall Street which is the financial I hub of this state. This movement was basically initiated by an activist group known as Adbusters . This group was a Canadian based protest group. This movement gave rise to various other occupying and protesting movements around the globe.

The main and highlighted reason of the starting of this movement was the economic instability and inequality, corruption, greed and the utmost and strong influence of the corporations on the government particularly on the financial sector service (Van, 2011). The main slogan of this movement was “We are the 99%”. This slogan was made to address the rapidly growing wealth and income unequal distribution among the richest, wealthiest people who were only about 1% and the remaining of the population which constituted 99% of the population. To make their goal achieved the protestors of this movement acted on consensus and mutually agreed decisions. These decisions were actually formed in the general assembly's which focused directly on the petitioning sectors authorities to redress (Harchick, 2011).

Discussion

The purpose of writing this paper is to give the readers an idea about the reason behind the movement of “Occupy Wall Street”. Therefore for this purpose, the author presented the literature covering the different events of the movement and also elaborating the main causes of the movement.

Start of the movement

The movement of Occupying Wall Street was basically initiated by two people. They were Micah White and Kalle Lasn of the protestors' activist group Adbuster. This group was basically based on the concept of an anti consumerist article. This was the article which gave the idea of this movement. And this movement was witnessed in full swing on September 17, 2011. White and Lasn who initiated this movement made all their efforts to promote their concept. On 9th June this movement was officially registered on the internet, getting its own website. Subscribers were welcomed from around the globe to post in their comments and opinions. What Adbusters proposed was this that there should be a peaceful and calm occupation of the Wall Street. In this protest they will be condemning the corporate strong influence on the democracy, will also be addressing the lacking in the legal situations for them who actually brought the word in crisis in monetary and greatly increasing the inequality in the wealth.

Another group of New York named as new Yorkers against Budget Cut's also joined this movement. This group actually promoted a “sleep in” in the lower Manhattan which is also called as the Bloombergville which took place in the stating of July.
