The topic around which this research paper revolves is occupational health and safety. The purpose of this research paper is to analyze and explore hazards, policies, laws and improvement actions to deal with hazards in a construction firm. This research paper with the help of exploratory research discovers all these issues. For the purpose of this research paper, the construction firm that is chosen is “Huey Construction Ltd”. Huey Construction is an old organisation. It undertakes variegated tasks of construction. There are a number of hazards that the employees of this organisation may face but this organisation is effective when it comes to the formulation of policies according to laws. At each and every level of the organisation, the concerned person has enough knowledge about the policies, laws and statutes through which they can deal with these hazards. This makes the legal environment of the organisation strong and effective. The organisation has its own detailed policy statement. The policies that are stated in the policy statement are according to the requirements of HSE (Health and safety executive UK). Besides that ACOP guidance are also utilized by the organisation. There is a health and safety management system in place. This system is effective and does not have any flaws. However, with the help of gap analysis it is revealed that the culture of the organisation in terms of health and safety is weak. Although, there are policies and laws are in place but employees do not understand the dogma behind that. The paper reveals all sorts of hazards that are faced by the organisation. Not only this, but the research paper also presents the risk assessment of the two of the hazards. The last section of the paper presents recommendations and action plan to further improve the condition of health and safety.
