The teacher covered the bulletin board with a large map, and asked students to speak with their parents about their ancestry. Were their ancestors Irish or African? Had each student brought in a family photo and paste it on the map where his ancestors come from. The 10 year older student researched the culture of those people and shared his findings with the class.

Often, those students felt different and separate from each other, so the teacher found ways in which they were similar and focused on the commonalities.
