Introduction

This observation paper aims to assess the organizational culture of America's oldest non-profit organization, The American Red Cross (ARC). The company boasts a gigantic presence in over thousand locations across the county and is headquartered in Washington D.C.

Mission

The Mission of ARC is to alleviate human suffering faced by calamities and emergencies through the active empowerment of volunteers and donors.

Vision

The vision statement of the ARC aims to turn compassion into action to achieve the following:

Provide care, shelter and hope to the affected

Ensure proactive preparation of the communities

Ensure each individual in the U.S. has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products

To provide equal support to armed services of the country

Training of volunteers and members to cater to emergency situations

Core Values

The core values governing the global Red Cross network operations pertain to humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.

Humanity

The Red Cross aims to provide assistance to the needy without any discrimination. All organizational activities are focused towards providing life and health protection ensuring respect for humanity and to promote cooperation and peace amongst all.

Impartiality

The endeavors of Red Cross are based on the core value of impartiality towards nationality, race, class, color, religion or political thought-pool.

Neutrality

The core value of impartial services extends further to enjoy confidence of all by maintaining a neutral take in matters of controversies and ideological hostilities.

Independence

The organization is essentially independent. The auxiliary national societies however are subject to the laws of their respective domains and governments.

Voluntary Service

The ARC and its global operations are a voluntary relief movement endeavor with no desire for gain.

Unity

Only one Red Cross society is permitted in a country.

Universality
