Observation of Birds

I believe that the way birds forage depends on the area they live in. There are so many factors that come into play. The human activity around them, the amount of wooded area they have access too, the size of the neighborhood, the amount of wild food they have access to, and how great the threat of predators is to the birds. As I live in the Florida, United States. We have twenty-two acres, and seventeen of those acres are planted in eight year old pines. There are a lot of woods around my house. I hung up two bird feeders for this observation, both were identical. They were octagon in shape with a black top, clear sides, and black bottom.

After watching the birds for a few days, I began to notice the smaller birds used feeder two more than the bigger birds. I feel this could be because the bigger birds somewhat guarded the “safest” feeder. It was almost as if the smaller birds were scared to go eat from it. When the small birds would eat from feeder one, they were usually quickly ran off by another bird. I also noticed I have a lot of Robins and Sparrows in my area.

I observed that birds have a strong association with the environment and people, as every other birds or human being have. Birds take these changes very early, and predict the danger. There are several examples of it also, that whenever a natural hazard is about to come, then birds start showing about such events (Stevens, 2003). They not only escape form that place, but also give alarming signs to other animals and human beings, with some vocal signs or other physical activity.

Observations of bird's uncommon behavior before the earthquakes are noticeable, and treated with high importance from the different researchers. There are several researches, and experiments have been conducted on this issue. The unusual behavior of the birds sometimes protects the life of them; also, it gives an alarm to the mankind living in that particular area. Birds show their behavior with the help of vocal stimuli, by flying here and there or by moving from that place (Laurance, 2002).

I observed Florida's water birds that include pelicans, ibises, storks, cormorants and the anhinga, which is also nicknamed the water turkey and the snakebird. Florida offers an ideal habitat for several species of long-legged wading birds. The state's wetlands are inhabited by six species of heron (Gaston, 1996). The great blue heron is the most abundant and widespread of these. The least bittern is at home in the freshwater marshes of central and south Florida. Several species of egrets also live in Florida, including the reddish egret which puts on a spectacular show when foraging.
