Obesity is one of the principal problems of the Sociological problems in teenagers that lead to depression. Obesity and depression can be considered as two major public health problems among teens. Obesity is very common in teens that are linked with many health problems including coronary heart disease, hypertension, and increase in the rate of suicidal attempts (Faith, et. al., 2002).
Obesity
Obesity is defined as a health condition in which the surplus amount of body fat has mounted to a degree that it could be considered unfavourable for human health. It can decrease life expectancy of a person. Obesity increases health problems in a person. There is no sharp line between an obese and a healthy person. Obesity is actually the situation in which the surplus fat of the body starts producing disturbance in the healthy routine of a person. A typical measurement of obesity can be made on the basis of the BMI of the person. BMI is the body mass index of a person that defines the physical fitness of a person by the measurement of height to mass ratio of the person. If the BMI of a person is more than 30 kg/m2 then the person is considered to be obese. A number of health problems are produced in a person due to obesity. The most common diseases found in obese people include heart disease, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea and different types of cancer. The reason for the initiation of obesity in a person is a combination of too many food and energy intake with a low amount of physical activities.
