Introduction

Overweight and obesity are referred to as irregular or extreme collection of fat that can be harmful to health. It is gauged by a measure known as Body mass Index or BMI that reflects the relationship of weight with height in order to determine the overweightness and obesity among adults. It is estimated by dividing weight of a person in kilos to the double of person's height in meters. As per World health organization estimation of measure, when a BMI is less than 25 it indicates overweightness and when a BMI is less than 30, it indicates obesity (WHO, 2012).

Obesity has been increasing rapidly in USA and seems to be appeared in 20th century. Subsequently it began to appear amongst children the following decade. As per national survey of USA from 1999 to 2000 showed about two third population of adult was overweighed and one-third population was obese (Flegal et.al, 2002). As per International Journal of Obesity, proportion of Americans who suffer from obesity has increased sharply from 2000 to 2010 i.e. gain weight 45 kg for normal - from 4% to about 7%.

Discussion

Two of the main causes of obesity in 21st century is current culture and lifestyle of Americans in USA that has resulted in increased weights as people particularly women are working excessively these days and keep sitting on front of PCs the whole day, as they don't get much time to work out or do any activity, therefore sitting at one place and accumulation of fats increases weight in women more than men. In addition, irregular diet comprising of junk and fast food that is rich of calories and fats and lacks basic nutrition also causes obesity as people have become so busy these days to cook nutritious food for themselves therefore, they tend to eat fast ...
