Obesity can be defined as condition of mental state which involves the accumulation of the excess body fat up to an extent that is actually adverse for human health. Obesity can further result in certain types of cancer, heart diseases, diabetes and certain other diseases (Gilman, 2012, pp. 46). However, besides these several side effects of the disease caused to a patient physically, Obesity has known to affect the life style of individuals in various social aspects. The further alarming part is the fact that Obesity is currently one of the most commonly occurred disease.

The basic aim with which the project was strategies was to include all the details regarding the effects of obesity on not just an individual's health or physical appearance, but also on the life style and social challenges faced by a patient. Other important facts in the project includes

Increasing Rate of Obesity

In spite of various attempts made by many health organizations and associations to spread the awareness regarding the disease and its control, obesity currently enjoys the status of being the most widespread disease. Moreover, every next survey conducted regarding the number of people affected by the disease includes a huge increase in numbers as compared to the previous surveys. Alone in United Kingdom, it is recorded that the rate of increase in adult obesity is up to 22% in the last 25 years. With a 29% of adult population in Birmingham declared as obese patients, it is said to be the “fattest” city of European Union. Moreover, a quarter of total population of Birmingham consists of obese 11and 12 years old.

Affect of Obesity

In more general terms, Obesity can basically be described as “putting up extra weight”. Hence, for general public Obesity is still a disease that just causes an individual to become Overweight. The social side effects of the disease include an abnormally shaped physical appearance. The most obvious and common reaction to this overweight in most individuals, especially teenagers, is the lowering of their confidence and self-esteem. Since, this is a problem that cannot be countered in a very short amount of time. Therefore, obesity further leads an individual to depression and anxiety. The social life of an individual is heavily affected by all these reasons. Hence, the physical and mental stress can make an individual more vulnerable to various health problems and heart diseases ultimately decreasing the life expectancy of an individual.
