Abstract
For thousands of years the plants have been used for medicinal purposes. The use of proper nutrition and herbal supplements grows at tremendous rate in the United States and worldwide. The field of herbalist and preventive medicines shares an aim to promote the general health that prevents particular diseases and apply the techniques and concept of healthy living. The knowledge acquisition relating to herbs and application of knowledge into practice is a challenge. This study focuses on the health promotion and disease prevention, and the goals emphasizing on the functional capacity, well being, and quality of life. For this purpose qualitative study has been carried out to explore the role herbs and food plays in maintaining health and vitality.

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to explore the key to healthy lifestyle. The focus of this study was to examine the enabling, predisposing and health status characteristics of the herb users. The basics of how to use the herbs and nutrition as a part of preventive and healthy lifestyle will also be determined.
Background of the study
The alternative and complementary medicines have been enjoying, a steady rise in familiarity and popularity among the public across the globe. Numerous studies report that the use of herbs for therapeutic and preventive purposes has consistently ranked among one of the top most complementary and alternative medicinal therapies (Barnes, 2004, pp. 6). The use of healthy practices (CAM) was functional throughout the history of human. According to WHO these practices assist in maintaining health and vitality. It is still being used by an estimated 80% of the population of the world (WHO Fact sheet #271, 2002). Both the herbal and conventional medicines claim the work of Claudius Galen (129-188 A.D.) and Hippocrates (468-377 B.C.) as their heritage.
