The theory of modeling and role modeling has been designed by Erickson, Tomlin, and Swain. This theory discusses that the term modeling is referred to the development of a comprehension regarding the world of patients. Moreover, the role modeling is the intervention of nursing practices or nurturance which requires the acceptance without any condition. The theorists of this theory believed that even though people are similar because of their multiple interaction sub-systems, development and life-time growth, i.e. their holism. However, they have different inherent endowment, self-care knowledge and adaptations. Role modeling of nurses provides a structure to obtain an idea about the way client structure their lifestyle. As per this theory, nursing is a self-care based model grounded on the perception of clients and adaptations to stressors.
The roles of nurses include clinical practices of nursing, consultations; follow up treatments, educating patients and prevention of illness. These roles have enhanced the accessibility of health care ser vices and reduced the outbreak of chronic diseases. As a result, the cost effectiveness has been increased and the experiences of the customers of healthcare services have been enhanced. On one hand, the promotion of health can lead to a large number of positive health outcomes, including knowledge of patient about their illness, adherence, good quality of life and self management. On the other hand, due to the broader field of health promotion, a great deal of research is required to evaluate the role of promotion of health in nursing.
The concept of promotion of health was established for the emphasis of the community based practices of health-promotion, participation of community and health promotion practices based on health and social policies. However, the empirical research indicates that professionals in the field of nursing adopt a behavior changing perception and an individualistic approach. It looks like the establishment of concept of promotion of health has no impact on practices of practical health promotion of nursing professionals. This integrative review aims to collate the results of the previous research on health promotions activities of nurses (Burggraf, 2012). The research questions addressed in the studies were as follows:
What type of promotion of health offers the theoretical grounds for the health promotion practices of nurses?
What type of expertise for promotion of health is required from a nurse?
What type of professional skills and knowledge do nurses exhibit who undertake health promotion?
What are the factors that contribute to the ability of nurses to conduct health promotion?
Method of Analysis
In this article review an integrative review has been selected since it allows the inclusion of studies with a large number of different methodologies in the same review. Integrative review has potential to gain comprehensive understanding on the basis of separate findings of research about the problem of healthcare. The integrative review has been done in following five phases:
Identification of problem
Literature search
Evaluation of data
Analysis
Presentation of results
Steps of the Process with Results
Search method
Various databases were searched for the identification of relevant published articles. Systematic searches of PubMed, ...
