Predicting the Critical Thinking Performance of Nursing Students

Abstract

The critical thinking concept has influenced various disciplines. The quantitative analysis of critical thinking in undergraduate nursing students has been analyzed and reviewed here. The importance of critical thinking to predict the performance of National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) is also reviewed. The issues examined in this review include the analysis of the theoretical definition of critical thinking. A list of critical thinking related assumptions was formulated and the limitations are identified for future research (Denzin et.al, 2000).

Introduction

Nursing was once taught only knowledge-based skills and facts, but now people have realized that emphasis needs to be made on critical thinking so that the nurses may be s.elf dependant.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this report is to carry out a quantitative analysis on the critical thinking and decision making skills in undergraduate nursing students.

Hypothesis

This review will help to find out the operational and theoretical definitions of critical thinking, the tools to evaluate it, and the frameworks that were used to assist the studies.

Literature Review

Nursing has evolved from a simple profession to a career that requires intelligent people who can independently make sound decisions. Critical learning is a point of focus for undergraduate nurses as it helps them to use their skills and abilities to make sound decisions.

Conceptual/Theoretical Framework

Nursing has evolved from an art to a science. Past practices cannot be used today. This job now not only included knowledge-based learning but also critical thinking and decision making. It is because of this reason that nurses are tested to check whether or not thay have the decision making skills to survive in this field. Critical reasoning is a skill developed in the mind of those who are intelligent and have good independent decision making skills. Attitude, habits, intellect, and discipline are some factors that influence critical thinking (Brown et.al, 2006).

Nursing Faculty and their Learner-Centered Characteristics

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the learner-centered characteristics of nursing educators. Secondary data was used for this qualitative research. Emphasis was made on the role of educators, their responsibility, and the philosophy of evaluation.

Introduction

This research describes the various strategies of learning and teaching in nursing education which are important for bodies of professional nursing. Problem solving learning, work based studies, contextual learning, and experiential learning have been given emphasis.

Statement of the Problem

Problem on which the study is going to talk about is learner-centered teaching personality of nurse faculty who report using contemporary pedagogy.

Research Questions

Question which are being researched in the study are

1) Characteristics which emerge due to the faculty responses

2) Build assumption from faculty reaction relating to meaning

3) Create conclusion on the subject of the significance of the meaning to nursing.

Literature Review

Literature reviews on nursing pedagogy elaborates many approaches of learning/teaching regarding nursing studies. These include education regarding distance pedagogy, descriptive pedagogy, problem solving studies, work related studies, and empirical studies. All of these strategies are important tool for contemporary or traditional pedagogy.
