Abstract

An effective communication strategy is based upon the incorporation of technology based communication systems and E-communication applications. The purpose of implementation is to improve the working efficiency of the staff as automated communication decreases the chances of errors and mis communications. The two systems discussed with the implementation aspect are “Cisco phone of patients” for pre-discharge patient orders and “MUSE system” integrated with Cisco phone system. E communication is one of the revolutions systems that have brought improvements in the communication processes within the hospitals and healthcare systems.

Introduction

E-communication is an effective and reliable tool to improvise the communication within the staff in healthcare settings. An effective organization must depend on the efficiency and reliability of the automated communication systems. This is important to minimize the chances of errors and reduce the communication gaps within different departments till the patient is discharged from the hospital (Grosse, 2010). The purpose to implement these technology based communication systems is based upon the fact that the communication error or gap is the major cause of medication error within a hospital, so to overcome this the management now relies on the implementation of effective communication automated systems which develops a stable and sound inter department relationships (Edwards, 2012).

Proposed Solution methods and Implementation Plan

The proposed solution is to develop an effective, sound and stable communication system between different health care workers which includes physicians, nurses, support staff and patients. The implementation plan follows the use of technology based programs and helping tools and the application of E-commerce. The flow of communication can be improved by automating the communication channel through which all the communication within the specified healthcare territory should take place through wireless networks. The communication should reach the specified person through a communication programming system.

At the nursing end the use of Cisco phone of patients for pre-discharge orders is an effective communication tool to notify the nurses automatically. The phone system is programmed with the pre-discharge order system so that the nurses are intimated on time and they are able to discharge the patient in timely manner (Dare, 2009). The programmed system is also linked to the transport department which marks the patient is ready to leave the premises for home. This increases patient compliance and acceptance and also increases Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey Scores.

Another way to increase the efficiency of communication system is to join together MUSE system with the Cisco phone system. MUSE is technology based software that incorporates the patient vitals and other relevant data through the hospital MEDITEC system. This integration helps the doctors and nurses to carry the operations and functions related to the patient more quickly and with effective automated communication.
