Nursing Philosophy

Introduction

Nurses function in an environment that is constantly being changed and reformed at both a national and local level. These reforms have modernized all aspects of their roles including the terms and conditions, their competencies within roles linked to the planning of personal and career development, and the requirement to update and change their practice. Effective strategies for managing change are dependent not only on the type of development involved, but also on the context in which it is implemented. Change can be viewed from several perspectives, including changes within an organization that may be the result of restructuring in response to government initiatives, or a change in internal processes such as the implementation of a new sickness and absence policy.

Change may be implemented by the individual responding to an organizational impetus, or implemented as an innovation in response to the production of new evidence from research, evaluation or audit. Change can be viewed as an inevitable progression for any individual, as this relates to the biological process arising from the notion that all life is in a state of flux. In human beings this relates to birth, development, ageing, illness and death. As nurses provide care within this context, change has to become an integral part of this care. This has led some authors to suggest that nurses should view change as an inevitable part of their role and as a normal life event that is linked to growth and development.

Nursing Autobiography

Nursing profession is all about the concept of evidence based care and provision of healthcare services in order to develop societal wellbeing. I entered into nursing profession due to my career priority that was related to social welfare. I wanted to enter a profession through which I could be of a significant assistance to the people that require care and effective healthcare service. The healthcare sector of the United States is suffering demand shortage of nursing workforce. This shortage of the resource is seriously affecting the concept of evidence based care. Hence, the objective of assisting the healthcare sector of my country through my services assisted my decision to enter into the profession of nursing. The first step in this regard was choosing the nursing profession. Numerous factors influenced my choice of vocation or profession, including personal interests, talents and skills. My interests in the nursing profession might have been influenced by personal experiences with nurses who cared for a family member.

Personal perceptions of nursing as a career include conflict between a value and appreciation for nursing on one hand, and the low desirability of the profession as a career choice on the other. Selection of a reputable institution was a tough choice for me; hence, I strived and prepared to get myself admitted in one of the most reputable nursing institutions of the United States. The knowledge, skills and tactics that I received from the institution assisted my throughout my nursing academic career.
