The Ways in Which Nursing of Families Has Changed Over the Last Several Decades

Over the last decade, the demand of nurses has been increased in other places than hospitals and nursing homes. Nurses are now able to work in home health or they can become a school nurse or a travel nurse. Nurses also have many more other opportunities. This is just a tip of iceberg when it comes to the ways of utilizing a nurse. Although, the requirement was increased due to the shortage of nurses, now nurses have learnt to be more independent, and this is the best way to acquire more skills and get updated with new trends in healthcare (Stine, 2010).

The changes have taken place in nursing in the same way the changes in healthcare have taken place. Although, the ultimate goal is to take care of the patient, at times the work is more but the satisfaction is very low, due to the higher workload. At times, it looks like the time is very less to provide the healthcare to the patient as a whole; it is more about the fundamental care due to the lack of time (Stine, 2010).

Due to all the changes in the manner healthcare has been managed, according to some people being a nurse is no longer restricted to providing healthcare to the patients. A nurse can find several ways in which the nursing has been transformed. At times, the profession of nursing looks like associated more with paper work instead of the provision of healthcare services to the patient. Every year the change is occurring in the profession of nursing. The use of technology has become common in the profession of nursing; this has become a normal occurrence and the part of standard of healthcare. The dynamic environment of the world has led to new paths that can be followed by the nurse like the fairly new specialization of forensic nursing (Stine, 2010).

Several years back, the nurses were not highly educated as compared to the nurses of present time. Majority of the nurses has diplomas or LPN. A gradual shift has been observed to more acquisition of education for nurses and today is common for a nurse to possess a bachelor, master or a doctorate qualification. It is necessary for all the nurses to attend continuing the education courses in order to get them updated with new trends in nursing. All of that has been transforming and nursing are now acquiring more and more education in their field. All the nurses are required to know all the functions in an increased capacity (Stine, 2010).

One more way, in which nursing profession has been transforming over the past few years, is through gradual increase in strength of male who are now joining the profession.
