Nursing Essay

Introduction

This paper is formulated to appraise the services of National Health Service (NHS) in the European region, especially in the U.K. constituency. This paper is principally a thorough essay upon the practices of NHS, which is contributing in the medicine and health care sector of the region. The principal practices of NHS are associated with the nursing, which in itself is a humongous sector to investigate and learn. This essay will elucidate upon a major issue that is needed to be catered for the benefit of National Health Services; and eventually for the Nursing.

Aims of this Essay

The core objectives is to highlight upon few of the major issues, which are essential to be catered in order to secure NHS from excessive financial losses and workforce management. The aim of this essay is “to minimize medication wastage in the wards.” This seems to be a rather simple work, but there is a lot of ground work that is needed to be done in order to make this practice successful. The first thing that is needed to be considered is the awareness of the staff that works for NHS, which includes nurses, doctors, pharmaceutical professionals and technician that are involved in the delivery of medication to patients (Borland, pp. n.d. 2012). The training and education of the working staff is essential in order to build the foundation of this practice. Despite of it, it is also put under consideration that all patients should be provided with adequate treatment so that no patient would get under served. However, it is also the objective of this initiative to decrease the cost of operation for National Health Service.

Reasons for Choosing this Issue

This is a very serious reason behind choosing this concern. There are medicines which are left over in the wards, in the lockers that are unused and got wasted. NHS is actually bearing a heavy amount of trouncing in the waste of medicines (Borland, pp. n.d. 2012). Therefore, it is essential to put under consideration and drive an appropriate solution that would fix this problem. Despite of it, patients who got shifted from one wards to another usually left their medicines in the departing wards. This is also a considerable factor in the wastage of medicines, which is actually quite serious and needed to be put under consideration. Uncollected medicines do also get wasted most of the times, and pharmacists do not take records of such unutilized medicines. These are some considerable reasons that prompted me to choose this concern and argue a literary discourse upon it.

Discussion

A recently published study by School of Pharmacy, University of London and the York Health Economics Consortium demonstrated that in 2008, in U.K., National Health Service basic and social care treatment medications misused a cost of approximately £300 m (this value is based upon the value of the medicine upon which it is being purchase and not consumed by the patient).

This yearly misused numbers measure up to a net basic and social care treatment medications invoice ...
