Nursing is one of the most important roles of the field of medicine. With the passing of time, many different theories have been put forward which are for the benefit of bringing the nursing world much further (Alharbi).
While there are many different theories, one of the most important theories which are put forward is the Modeling and Role Modeling Theory. This has been put forward by three theorists; Helen C. Erikson, Evelyn M. Tomlin and Mary Ann P. Swain (Lamb, 2005). The Modeling and Role Modeling Theory presents a theory and paradigm of nursing. It is very significant that the modeling and role modeling theory could be implemented in a number clinical and nursing practices.
They can reflect potential outcomes of a framework, well effective to be incorporated in an organizational strategy. These three have put together a theory which concerned with the manner in which the nurses are supposed to take care of the patients they are made responsible for. Over the years this theory has now become one of the leading theories which are referenda to when nurses are taught.
Over time the theory has now come to the forefront. The theory was published in the book of Modeling and Role Modeling: A Theory of Paradigm for Nursing. This book was put forward in 1983. The core f the theory is to look after and take care of each and every patient with respect to their needs. What this further implies is that each patient has to be taking in care of with the right awareness of the patient and their needs. Apart from this the patient has to be respected ant their wishes have to be looked after with great care (Lamb, 2005).
Discussion
The theory has been derived from many different theories of management and psychology. The theory of model and role modeling have been derived from Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs, Erikson's theory of psychosocial stages, piglet's theory of cognitive development and generally adaptation syndrome by sale and Lazarus (Landesman, 2006).
The theory is based upon how the people who come for care a different and similar to each other in unique matters. Modeling is mainly the process of how the nurses develop the image and understanding of the client's world. Then it is the process of how the client perceives it. This is one of the major aspects of the theory (Chan & Arthur, 2009).
Now comes the idea of role modeling. This is the when the nurse facilitates the individual. They are supposed to nurture the individual in attaining and maintain the patient's health with the use of different interventions. This is supposed to be done in the hope of promoting the health of the client.
The nurse is required to look at each patient as an individual patient and person, these facts which are then seen by the nurse regarding the patient. They are then to nurture them to ...
