The following paper discusses about an article “Workplace stress in nursing”. The author of the article is Andrew Vicar, and was published on July 24th 2003. This article was published in Journal of Advanced Nursing. There have been increasing evidence that technical intervention while treating a patient is not always enough. A religious or spiritual parameter of care is required especially by cancer patients. The National Cancer Institute defines religion as collection of practices or beliefs associated with a religion, and spirituality as the search for the “truth” through a religion or an alternative path.
The issue of shortage of nursing is not a single profession issue but it needs a combine effort from media, government, health care executives, education, and nursing leaders. The proper shortage data of the nurses is not available properly. The discussion that is going on related to this issue is interrelated and complex. It is not easily possible to figure out some fix solutions. The review gives the detailed understanding of the relationship between various variables (AACS, 2013).
Back ground
The perception of stress is highly subjective, and therefore it is a major cause of various complexities in nursing practices. As a result of stress, nurses cannot identify their sources of stress, in the workplace and thus the role of nurses is changing and currently occurring in the United Kingdom health service. Thus it would have insinuation for measures being introduced for addressing the problems for the stress in nursing.
Stress is defined as the perception of demand response. It is integrated in the Cognitive theory of stress by Lazarus and Folkman (1984) which is applied theory in order to study the occupational area and also management of stress (Lehrer & Woolfolk ,1993). The theory and concept behind the stress is related with the perception of individual of the demand made on them and also the perception of their own capabilities for meeting their demands. Stress is actually dependent upon the experiences, characteristics under which the demand is being made by individual. The assessment of stress is also difficult because it is diverse and challenging for the health care and therefore effectiveness for the interventions of organizations for reducing and elimination of sources on which stress is dependent upon a sound understanding of the phenomenon of stress in nurses.
