This article Nurses' assessments of individualized care in long-term care institutions have been written by four authors named Riitta Suhonen, Pilvi Alikleemola, Jouko Katajisto and Helena Leino-Kilpi. These authors are Professor of Nursing Science and have been involve in practice of nursing since long.
Riitta Suhonen has been a Professor in Gerontological Nursing Science and has conducted many researches in flied of Nursing Care of Older People, Gerontological Nursing Science. She has been teaching in Turun yliopisto University of Turku.
Pilvi Alikleemola and Jouko Katajistois are also a part of Department of Nursing Science, University of Turku -Finland. Pilvi has conducted many researches concerning Nurses and their assessments and nursing caring towards people.
Helena Leino-Kilpi is a PhD, RN, Professor and Head of the Department Nursing Science along with the Director of the Finnish National Doctoral Programmed in Nursing Science. She is also a Nurse Manager (part time), Hospital District of Southwest Finland. Her Research interests, projects consist of Evaluation of the quality of nursing care, patient education and learning outcomes from it. She has been teaching subjects that are related to nursing and doctors' dissertation.
Type of study in the article
Since the article is about to explore nurses' assessments of individualized long term care wards and to see how socio-demographic variables has been linked with the views of these care. In order to collect data concerning this, method that has been used is explorative survey.
Quantitative Research
Quantitative Research is that research in which data are quantifiable and has been generalize from the interest sample of population. The reason to use this method is to determine the incidences of diverse outlooks and views in a sample that were selected. In this method, sample that is used are large number of cases which are selected randomly. Data has been gathered through using questionnaires from nurses in long-term care wards that is 19 nurses. This data has been run on SPSS software i.e. descriptive statistics which comprises of frequencies, means and standard deviations. This was used to explain sample and the study variables in the article. ANOVA has also been used F-value, degrees of freedom with a p-value in order to examine linkage among categorical socio-demographic variables and study variables.
Through using HSD test Post hoc comparisons has been determine. Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to see the linkage between study variables and Numerical variables which are age, the length of total health care experience and in the current ward. The reason to use an exploratory design for this study is due to get better and clear Quantitative results which was not possible with other methods.
