Nurse Staffing

Introduction

Studies and researches have very often highlight that shortage of nurses is one of the most commonly observed hospital trends in countries all over the world including USA. Therefore, the management and administrative authorities have been adapting several new recruitment, training and mentoring strategies and policies for the nurses in order to ensure that the best of the nurses hired in the hospitals and clinics are provided with most useful training in order to ensure the availability of quality nurses in any health related facility.

Discussion

As a chief nursing officer, my aim would be to critically analyze the current weaknesses and limitations of the recruitment procedures and plan a strategy accordingly to achieve best possible outcomes.

Strategy for Recruiting Nurses for Acute Care Units

There are multiple recruitment initiatives that I will implement to not just assist a useful recruitment trend. However, these initiatives will also serve to ensure the retaining of nurses in the hospital facility. The fundamental aspect of a useful recruitment strategy lies on how any health-care employer depicts its profile in the job postings, in addition to the facility's public relations face and marketing.

Clinic and Hospitals that are known for the high quality of health-care advancements and services they offer in medicine, enjoy the position to be able to appeal to a wide range of the nursing candidates. Therefore, the first step in the series is to identify, market and promote the strengths of the treatment and services offered by my hospital in order to attract a wide range of quality nurses.

The next important step is to plan an evaluation criterion for the nurses that will include their academic and co curricular achievements in addition to their experience in the field. This will be to ensure the recruitment of only the best of the nurses. However, in my opinion, the overall nursing staff must be a combination of youth and experience (Land, 1994). Therefore, I will focus on hiring the experienced as well as the new graduate nurses. In addition, I will also encourage the recruitment of male nurses.
