On entering the university and colleges, the students are responsible for their note taking. Knowing how to take notes effectively is an important skill that every student must cultivate (John, 2000).
Strategies to improve the ability of taking notes can be:
1. Recording the date, identifying the notes of the different courses and keep them separate.
2. Writing accurately in order to have no trouble while interpreting the notes.
3. Try to make notes in outline form.
4. Use of own words instead of trying to write exactly what the teacher says
5. Copying the majority of illustrations, diagrams and drawings.
6. Keeping an eye on those points where the teacher emphasizes.
7. Use of symbols such as an asterisk to identify points emphasized.
8. Leaving enough space between notes so that it can be expanded and clarified later.
9. Checking the notes as soon as possible after class.
10. Leaving a margin of three inches to extend points and asking questions about the material.
11. Writing in short sentences and avoiding long paragraphs and sentences together. .
12. Use of abbreviations, symbols and signs.
13. Prepare in advance, read about what is going to discuss in class and having an outline of points to be discussed.
15. Taking notes on each subject separately.
17. Do not quitting when you're taking notes.
