Introduction
This is an essay of comparing leadership and management theories with the leadership and management in the field of healthcare. The essay will critically analyze the relationship of leadership and management theories in general and in the field of healthcare and nursing. The essay will provide my arguments on these two dimensions of theories. The essay will mainly focus the topic “Not all leadership is about changing or challenging people's vision of the future”. This essay will follow this problem statement throughout the work. The essay will start with the presentation of leadership and management theories in accordance with the healthcare sector. This will follow certain examples from clinical era and will end with personal logical arguments.
Discussion
Leadership ability enables the leader to influence the thought process of his fellow team members. The leader influences them towards the achievement of certain goals and targets. Effective leaders do this with perfection. Leadership is also the relationship between the leader and his team mates (cherry, 2011). There are numerous healthcare organizations in this world. They spend a lot of money in the renovation of the facilities in hospitals. They spend ample amount in building infrastructure of the organization. They tend to care less about the people working in the healthcare organizations. This poor management of human resource in these organizations has increased need of effective managers in healthcare organizations.
The leaders in the healthcare sector need to maintain close relationships with the nurses, physicians, technological staff, and other member of the administrations. The healthcare leaders need to understand the needs of their fellow members for the successful operations of the organizations there is a difference in leadership and management (Goodman, 2011). Every manager cannot be a good leader, but every leader is a good manager. The history has produced many leadership and management theories. The next part presents all these theories.
Theories of Leadership
These theories evolved from the Great Man theory and continued to evolve to reach the collective leadership theory. The Great Man theory suggests that the leaders are born, and they are not made. This theory was developed after the study of those men who were already leader. The Trait theory of leadership suggests that people are born with certain traits. Some of these traits help them to transform themselves into leaders. Effective leaders stay calm under immense pressure situations. They admit their mistakes and errors. They keep a broad mindset for all of the underlying issues (Cherry, 2011).
The next theory, Behavioral Theory argues that the leaders are not born. People can make themselves leaders. Anybody can become a good leader. This theory incorporates what leaders do. The Role theory of leadership takes certain assumptions with it. According to this theory, people who are leaders develop certain roles for themselves. They also form few expectations from those roles. They tend to stay within the role they have adopted (Cherry, ...
