North Beach

Introduction

North Beach is located at the north side of San Francisco, and it has many popular neighbourhoods, such as Fisherman's Wharf, Russian Hill and Chinatown, so it easily becomes a tourist hotpot. Although it is called North Beach, it is not a beach anymore. It was a beach a long time ago, but as the city expanded, the beach filled in with landfill. It also called “Little Italian” because the buildings are full of Italian style as many Italian immigrants live over there since 1900s. As there are many famous neighbourhoods, North Beach has a very good transportation network. Visitors can easily get there by taking bus #30, 39, 41, and 45. For visitors who drive, there are many street parking or they can park at parking garages that are in the Chinatown. The following observation is made in an afternoon on a weekend.

Discussion

In North Beach, there are many Italian restaurants, cafes, and residential buildings. Most of them do not have a long history, and they did reprint and well decorated. From this photo, we realized that the outlooks of the buildings are very clean, and the buildings are built in a same style. They have flat roofs, small windows and deep set. The main entrance of the buildings has an arch and need a few steps to reach it.

There are benches with cover at the bus stops, and waste bins with recycle bin on the top of it next to the bus stops. This is a good combination because people can take rest when they are waiting for the bus, and many people like to have their quick meal or eat snack while waiting for the bus, having a waste bin can courage them to throw the waste in the bin instead of on the street.

There are trees on the side of sidewalk; it can be a strong protection when there is a car accident and keep the sidewalk away from the road. There also trees in between the road of opposite direction, it separated the lanes to opposite direction. It can again protect the vehicles when there is a car accident on the lane of opposite direct, and it can avoid car accidents that happen between the vehicles driving to opposing direction.

Landmark is one of the important elements for a city as it acts as a compass of a city. In Long Beach, there is St. Peter and Paul church. Since it is much taller than the buildings around it and it has a different architectural style for it is a church, we can easily see the church and identify where we are. Unfortunately, the church is under reconstruction, so there is not much things they can be observed. The only thing is that people tend not walking on the side that is under construction.
