Introduction

Social scientists have long been working on the differences between communication pattern and the behavior of different genders, and significant results have also been concluded on the same subject. It is a common observation that men and women behave differently when I public, and also adopt different methods for expression of their feeling, emotions and sentiments. The different are not always eminent, and at time it appears that both the genders are behaving in the same way but a close observation shows that the notion is false, and differences do exist between both the genders. The paper seeks to analyze the different between the behavior of both the genders and how they act differently in public, thus marking the distinction between the gender messages.

Method

In order to have a close observation and keenly analyze the behavior pattern of both the genders, the researcher would visit a local park five days a week for two consecutive weeks, and observe the interaction of the individuals. This would include interaction between opposite and same gender, in order to distinguish between the two behaviors. In addition, the following behavior would be observed and analyzed:

Interaction between couples belonging to same gender

Interaction among group of men

Interaction among group of women

Interaction among a group of men and women

Park has been selected to describe and analyze the behavior of individuals because individuals act freely over there, and there are no restraints of predefined social patterns of behavior. Under such circumstances, individuals behave freely and come up with their natural pattern of behavior, thus assisting in getting a true insight of the differences in gender behavior.

In addition the park, same groups and couples would also be observed and analyzed in a restaurant. This location has been selected because restaurants usually have a set pattern of behavior and both men and women act formally (Griffin, 2008). This observation would assist in marking difference between the formal and informal behavior of different genders and would also highlight the differences between the expected difference in behavior and the actual distinctions that exist.

The observation would include the following factors: who initiates the discussion, who asks from company, who makes the first move to touch and who prefers holding hands. In addition, following factors would be highlighted: Who touches whom? How many times? Under what conditions do men/women touch each other?

Who initiates conversations or steers the topic of conversation?

Which sex interrupts more often? Is there any difference between same sex and mixed sex groups?

What is the distance between members of the group? Which sex occupies more space in which settings? Why?

Are there any subtle (gaze, smile, nods, gestures) forms of gender norms regarding conversation styles?

The two different locations selected for the research would be thoroughly observed and the actions would be analyzed and the results would be presented in finalized form in the following paragraphs. The analysis would be based on the sociological theories, which would be presenting details of ...
