Nokia Company

Introduction

I'm the personnel manager of the Nokia Company who has a simple mission called “Connecting People”. Due to all the change of practices and redundancies, the remaining workforces have now lost their faith in the management. So I took the responsibility to report to the Managing Director to gain the employees trust and motivate them for the new changes. As my purpose to write this report is how to increase the morale and motivation level of the leftover working population for their future achievements.

From the past 150 years, Nokia had been working on a riverside mill in Finland but then it evolved itself to a global telecommunications industry by connecting more than 1.3 billion people. Within that period it also produced car tyres, rubber boots, generated electricity and even TVs. In 1871, Fredrik Idestam established a mill near the Nokianvirta River, which gave it a name of Nokia Ab. It started making paper as the most convenient communication technology of the 19th century. In 1981, it launches Nordic Mobile Telephone, the world's first international cellular network and international roaming. In 1982, Nokia introduces the first car phone “Mobira Senator” and a digital telephone switch “Nokia DX200” Nokia, (2013).

Nokia has captured the worldwide market by serving services like Nokia music, PC suite, Ovi suite, Photos, Life blogs, Business Center, Sports & software Tracker, VPN products, etc. In 2013, the current market share of Nokia is off 6%ytd because there are many other competitors (Apple and Samsung) trying to compete in the telecommunications sector. But by the joint venture with Microsoft, Nokia is now able to compete in the Smartphone's industry with Nokia Lumia Nokia, (2013).

After all the redundancy procedures and sarcastic changes to the working policies, the employees still working need a morale booster so that they can work effectively and add up more to the productivity. Nokia has to take up measures before implementing advanced practices over the current workforce (CIPD, 2005, pp. 8-23).

Repairing morale and to boost motivate

The current employees' working needs a motivation factor that can only be established by creating an inducement or an inspiration for them. It is my duty as a personal manager, to make them focus on the future accomplishments and achievements that are going to be acquired due to the major changes to the company. My focus is on how to gain the organisational success by motivating the staff and making them work with the new practices (CIPD, 2005, pp. 8-23).

Providing holidays and tourism facilities will provide relaxation to the workers. This may make them feel fresh from all the hard working activities they perform on the job. Other than that a bonus, intangible, tangible or a reward can also be given as a present which may create a positive attitude to the workers behaviour. Alternates and leverages can be provided to them so that they can comfortably work on which ever suits them best. Motivation on their minor and major achievements should be celebrated so that they feel as they ...
