Introduction

Federal Republic of Nigeria is a federal constitution consisting of 36 states located in Western Africa. Nigeria comprises of 500 ethnic groups in which the largest are Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. It is the most populated country in the continent of Africa and is rated on the 7th as the most populated country in the world with majority as blacks. The following paper puts highlights on the overall health conditions in Nigeria.

Health Status Report

The health care system in Nigeria consists of various facilities. Lack of care and concern has led to the development of many private hospitals. The country is in deplorable condition and needs medical supplies on urgent basis in 2000, only 5% of the Nigerians had access to health drinking water and majority was exposed to unhygienic sanitary conditions. The widespread diseases such as yellow fever and other health problems are acutely found in Nigeria. Here, malaria and tuberculosis are occurring frequently and half of the deaths in children are the reason of malaria and its vulnerability in children (Augustine, n.d). Also, Nigeria has been reported to have the highest number of cases of measles in Africa. HIV/AIDA is on its height in the country and the people estimated to be having the disease was 3.5 million in 2001. Nigeria is coming up with various changes and had made strides in the health care sector. Among the noticeable efforts include the expansion of education, improvements in the health care system, control of deadly diseases and providing care in the urban and rural areas. This has also led to the expansion of vaccination facilities and campaigns (Augustine, n.d). Despite of all the efforts, sharp disparities can be seen in the country.
