The National Health Service was launched in 1948. Since then it has grown rapidly and not it is world's largest publicly funded health service. Along with that it is one of the most comprehensive, egalitarian and efficient organizations of the world. The main aim behind the establishment of the National Health Service was to assure the availability of good health services to all the citizens of the United Kingdom, regardless of their wealth. Ever since it was born this is one principle that has remained as its core. Primarily the National Health Service is funded the by general tax paid by the people of the United Kingdom (HAM, C., 2004).

The National Health Service provides services for free treatment for many diseases, some of the major diseases includes;
Chronic heart disease
It is a disease in which the human heart becomes incapable of supplying sufficient amount of blood flow to meet the requirements of human body. This disease is caused by factors such as; excessive smoking, poor diet plan, and physical in—activity (Harding, 2005).
Lung Cancer
This is a disease could be characterized as the un-controlled growth of the cells inside the human tissues of the lung. This disease is common among the people who smoke regularly.
Liver cirrhosis
This disease could essentially be explained as the scarring of the liver, a disease in which the liver tissues are replaced by the scar tissues. These disease is common among the people of have habits of excessive alcohol drinking.
