Introduction

Nevil Shute Norway was a novelist and aeronautical engineer born in England on January 17, 1899; he was the son of civil servant. In his literary career he was known as Nevil Shute, whereas in the field of engineering he used his full name to protect his career in any potential publicity regarding their refusal novels. As a child he was interested in technology particularly aircraft construction and dreamed of becoming a pilot.
