In this case, Magpies Inc. they require a new set up. They require Networked workstations, a fast connection to the Internet, a shared printer for all computer and intranet Server to host local web pages.

Task 1

The main job of firewall is like a filter, make sure no damaging data access into your workstation and cause damaging. In addition the printer and the printer server should be in the LAN network (Thompson, 2006, 36-39). The network printer that is a machine which share by workstations, also it connects to the printer server and the printer server which connect one of the hub.

Firstly, we plan to set up a LAN network in the office, to meet their requirement we should put the cable modem, server, router and 1 Hub in the separate room. In the main part of the room, we put 10 computers in each side, and all the workstation have to well-installed 2 Ethernet card in order to connect to the internet/ server or Hub. Firewall should be implemented in this stage as well because for the security purpose and it have the function which is port forwarding etc.

Task 2

A router may create or maintain a table of the available routes and their conditions and use this information along with distance and cost algorithms to determine the best route for a given packet. Typically, a packet may travel through a number of network points with routers before arriving at its destination (Bach, 2006, 35-38).

A network Interface card (NIC) also called Ethernet card and this is an expansion board you have to plug into a computer so the computer can be connected to a network. Most NICs are designed for a particular type of network, protocol, and media, although some can serve multiple networks (James, 2006, 14-19). "It also provides an interface to the media. This may be either using an external transceiver or through an internal integrated transceiver mounted on the network interface card PCB (Bach, 2006, 35-38).

Router is a device that connects any number of LANs. "Routers use headers and a forwarding table to determine where packets go, and they use ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts." And the router is connected to at least two networks and decides which way to send each information packet based on its current understanding of the state of the networks it is connected to (Wolfson, 2000, 483-9). Very little filtering of data is done through routers. Routers do not care about the type of data they handle.

A cable modem is a device that enables you to receive data at about 1.5 Mbps. This data rate far exceeds that of the prevalent 28.8 and 56 Kbps telephone modems and the up to 128 Kbps of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and is about the data rate available to subscribers of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) telephone service (Flickner, et al. 2007, 23-32).
