Introduction

The use of navigation systems in automobiles are model equipment today because routes are mainly designed from one place to another through navigation maps, which provide shortest way by giving directions to assist tourists. As per the definition, navigation system is the program that aids in navigation. Navigation system could be on a vehicle or vessel but in modern days, navigation system is installed in mobile phones and other devices for tourists. Navigation system contains map available in human readable format in the form of text. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide evidence related to the use of navigation maps used by tourists (Shanker, 2008, pp. 50-58). The research revealed that walking tourist still facing certain problems to find their way in foreign cities. However, still the navigation maps providing much benefit to the tourists.

Positive Aspects of Navigation Maps

As it has been stated that tourist facing problems in navigation maps but the benefit, which makes difference is that pedestrians are considered to be much more flexible as compared with cars (Wsiodle, 2013). For instance, pedestrians can walk on a one way streets and can modify commands or cross streets whenever they like. Therefore, because of this, the route calculation is relatively different.

Another advantage highlighted is the technical infrastructure because travellers need GPS receiver to determine their position. However, the device like MDA's or PDA's normally upgraded and than by making connection with navigation program, (for instance Navigon), this runs on a mobile and the tourist able to compute routes, which provide assistance to tourists (Mohared, et. al., 2006, pp. 211-22).
