Introduction

The thesis statement or the focus of this essay is the ideology of nationalism. Firstly, this essay will define the nationalism. Nationalism study is important to the understanding of the most important subject i.e. world politics. Importance of nationalism is because of two political truths which includes the inflexible Earth's political geography that is the countries territoriality that establishes the world. Another political reality includes the consistent civil conflict set off by the social groups with separate nations from the leading national group, and also because of the right to self rule or independence even by the means of segregation, protest, violence or other approaches essential to protect their community interests (Baum, 2006, p.2).

Discussion

The categorization of nationalism as a matter of beliefs and ideology has been the subject of confusion always according to the political studies. The concept of Nationalism must be considered and classified as an ideology and this concept becomes the important concept. This concept helps in determining that why societal classes, political groups and individuals act out the way they do regarding the system in which they reside. Nationalism helps in seeking and identifying a group or population that follows certain cultural and political goals in support of the nation and themselves. Nationalism is also a feeling of trustworthiness towards nation which is mutually shared by its people. Elements of unity like language, religion, shared historical experiences, tradition, democracy, physical contiguity, rituals and many other things help in binding individuals with one another within the nation. These cohesions permit for combined action by the groups if and when it is confronted with the present situation of the nation, displeased with the novel condition of the system (for example: change in policies, laws or leadership), or when the present position quo is threatened or endangered by an outside or an inside force (Martin, 2008, p.1).

Though there are many challenging and opposing views regarding the matter that whether nationalism must be considered as an ideology or not, but nationalism must be analyzed and evaluated to understand the merit and weakness of the ideology. Nationalism has always been a dominant source of uniting people of distinct and different ideological perspectives and classes and it also helps in enhancing same understanding of economical, social and political issues that are affecting them.

According to a scholar, nationalism can signify emancipation and exploitation and these characteristics make it difficult to understand the nationalism. Nationalism justified segregation of people in their motherlands and justified defensive invasions. According to another scholar, in order to promote generality, caused prejudiced thinking and amplify differences, nationalism has been used. Thus nationalism is dominant in forming a nation state that is motivated by the help of certain planed objectives and gives an umbrella in the policies of the country (Tendai Mazingaizo, 2011, p.n.d.).
