National Security versus Civil Liberties

Issue Description

In this issue paper, a problem is discussed in which a private research and development firm has worked out a device that is capable of receiving even a weak signal emitted from the mobile that could help the security agencies in tracking terrorists more efficiently. But by doing so, these security agencies might violate some or many Civil liberties that are being protested by many people that are the residents of United States. Members of security agencies also willing to use this device with their full potential and for this, they have proposed to set up a complete system of their secret satellite system that will help them in tracking their desired targets all the time with ease which will enable them to track and capture the terrorist much before the time of any terrorist activity that may have been planned by that terrorist. Also an analysis is made in which the merits and demerits are discussed regarding this issue that will highlight what benefits can be availed from the usage of this device and what undesirable results may also come in front of the security agency members for the usage of this device. In the end, recommendations are also made to draw attention to the possible matter resolving suggestions in order to resolve the issue successfully between both the members of security agencies and the residents of U.S for defending their civil rights.

Impact Expected

Most common impact that can be predicted by such practice performed by the people of the national security agencies is the intervention in the private life of the people without bringing into their knowledge which clearly breaks the law of civil liberties upon which strict action is demanded by the people against national securities personals. While on the other hand it is equally beneficial for the members of FBI or CIA (two most renowned security agencies of US) to track and capture terrorists in a much shorter time which could lead to the controlling of many un-lawful and harmful activities planned by those terrorists.

Personals of FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) which are among the most renowned, highly active and resourceful security agencies of USA, has come across a device manufactured by Sonoma Valley Electronics, Inc., which allows the tracking of any individual from its mobile phone even with a very low signal of mobile. Members of security agencies are willing to use this device for tracking terrorists more effectively while usage of this device has also led the members of security agencies to violate the law of Civil Liberties through which the private life of an individual can be easily tracked and monitored without the permission of the individual which is un-ethical and against the law.
