Introduction

The world has seen significant changes in the recent times. People and societies have become more health conscious these days than they were before. There rising needs are supported by health care centers, which are also better paid off due to the advancements in the technology and information systems. The role of health care centers has become very critical in developing a higher standard of living among the individuals and the societies as a whole. Their main responsibility is to diagnose, treat, and prevent the individuals from various injuries, illnesses, and diseases. They also involve in providing cure for the other mental and physical impairments suffered by the people. The people who are involved in providing health care services to the individuals include physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other health care professionals.

United States is one of the countries with major reforms and progressions towards the health care industry from late 19th century to early years of 20th century. This progressive era paved the way for further developments in the industry in US. Lot of investments and expenditures has been done in this regard to help improve the health care sector (Daemmrich, 2011).

This paper will provide an insight about the level of expenditures being made in the current setup of national health care. It will also draw attention towards the fact that whether the spending is too much for the sector, or it is just not more than enough for further reforms. Then, areas will be identified where the nation needs to add or cut their expenditures. The paper will highlight on the fact that whether the health care needs of the general public are paid for through which means and sources. Finally, a conclusion will be drawn based on providing the forecast about the future economic needs of the health care system in the country, there significance, and the ways those need are to be financed.

Level of Current National Health Care Expenditures

The policymakers of USA have been known to spend massively as far as healthcare sector is concerned. Considering the data of 2010, the healthcare authorities spent a huge amount of $8,402 per person. Economic activity has suffered greatly due to the excessive spending on healthcare. USA had spent $2.6 trillion on the betterment of healthcare in 2010. Dividing that among the whole population shows that the authorities spent an overall sum of 8,402$ per person as far as the healthcare needs are concerned. The $2.6 trillion spent on the healthcare sector in total represents a 17.9% of the state's overall viable economic activity, also called as the gross domestic product.

Although there has been a massive increase in healthcare spending over the years, the recent years have witnessed stability in spending. There is a need for USA to adopt a unified approach towards healthcare as only attaching attention to the healthcare sector would be harmful.
