My experience of American culture

To prepare this essay, I spent a lot of time to review my life in America so far. What surprising me first, is that, I have already live and study here for four months? The day I arrived at campus just like happened yesterday. I started life here with curiosity, excitement and nervousness. I wanted to explore this unknown country. And now, after four months, I found that, I'm not only touch a new culture more comprehensive, but also understand China's culture deeper. It's interesting that, a new culture provides me a unique viewpoint to review a familiar culture. I tried to understand and explain the things seem that supposed to be in China's culture. There are two things give me most impression. First, people's attitude on piracy is different. Secondly, the way students have class.

Cultural myths, practices and institutions

First of all, I found that people's attitude on piracy is different. In September 30, I opened my laptop to check email as usual. But I couldn't log on to the net. An information was shown in the middle of the screen that, “your Ethernet was stopped because of copyright infringement. Please contact help desk.” “What is wrong is it?” I asked myself. I didn't remember I did something infringe copyright. I refreshed the web page several times, and nothing changed. Then I realized that, there must be something happened seriously. In the after few hours, the IT department explained why my network access was blocked, the judicial affair office sent me an email, and I received a warning. I tried to explain to them I didn't do anything to infringe copyright, but it didn't work. Finally, the IT department checked the IP again, and found there was a misunderstanding due to a training error in the IT department, which in turn caused them to wrongfully block your network access. And the warning has been removed, too.

I really felt sad and helpless about this, not only because I did not download or upload anything, but also I experienced how serious if you download piracy products in America. In the judicial affair office's letter, they warned me “You may be liable for damage for this infringement, as of 8/7/2007 students are being sued directly by copyright holders.  Settlements begin at $3,000 and suits that are not settled begin ...
