My Adult Life Experience

Introduction

A person is shaped by his past, and I believe that what I am today is also because of what I experienced in my childhood. I had a very difficult childhood, as when I was growing my family was very poor, I started working and earning my expenses very early in my life. Although, my studies got affected, and I have to continue my education now when I am an adult; however, I do not regret those tough times as they molded my personality and made me experience my adult life as a strong man.

At a young age, my father established a manufacturing unit that was growing successfully when a few family members deceived him and swindled his plant, leaving him with financial burdens, and health challenges. Affected by the setback, he suffered his first heart attack two-months before my birth. Over time my father, our family's sole earner, endured two more attacks and two bypasses, but he worked hard and repaid the family's liabilities. His volatile health and our fragile economic condition made my mother deeply insecure. As a result, I was brought-up with a goal to become determined to be capable and self-sufficient.

Fortunately, he recuperated healthier from the surgery.

The experience profoundly impacted me and shaped me into the individual I am. I did not see it then, but from the adversity, I gained maturity to address issues beyond my age. Through all the health challenges, what kept my father going was a resolve to support his young family that inculcated in me a strong belief in the power of perseverance. Steadily, the qualities of determination and maturity defined me as a person and professional. I distinctly remember the period during undergrad that gave me further conviction in these qualities.

One of my favorite writers is Edgar Allan Poe. If you know anything about his life, you know he suffered more tragedies than any other human being certainly should have to endure. To list just a few things, he was orphaned at the age of three, his foster father abused him, and his first wife died at an early age. His most famous work “The Raven” was sold for only $9 (Thompson & Winkler, 2011).

Despite these tragedies, Poe wrote many magnificent short stories and poems. Many biographers give credit to the unfortunate events in his life as inspiration for what he wrote, and you can see his tragedies reflected in his work. Today he is often considered one of America's greatest ...
