"Face Down" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Introduction

Buzzing the alarm against domestic assault with an agonizing volley of blunt-force guitar, razor-sharp tune and near-existential shouting, the music video "Face Down," by Virgin Records' new band The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus goes on to explain a growing social problem (Anon., n.d.). This paper will focus on the music, the video, the setting, the drama and the message portrayed by the music video itself. The song focuses on the issue of domestic violence and interprets how a woman's world being turned upside down because of domestic violence.

Discussion

Although the primary punk pop strategy of the band in "Face Down" is rather ordinary, the lyrics of the song focuses its attention to the problem of domestic violence for which the song deserves a second listen. Seemingly, some audience have got it wrong that the song is about an abuse on both the men and women protagonists of the song. However, the band has described the song is discussing the growing issue of violence among partners (Lamb, n.d.).

There is considerable dilemma in the terms of "Face Down," but the terms can be confusing for many audiences due to the normal lyrics establishing of the tune. As you see that you are singing along to "Do you feel like a man when you push her around? Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?" it does gradually mess up in that there is something serious going on in the lyrical content of the song. Unfortunately, the psychological impact of good pop problem music of past times is missing (Lamb, n.d.).

The music video features a girl who has been abused understandably by her partner, as the lyrics of the song suggest. However, the video does not feature a male partner actually abusing the girl. The extent of torment on the partner being abused can be felt by the lyrics along with the scenes of the music video itself. The music video suggests that the domestic violence shatters the life of the partner being abused, as everything in the video shatters or turns upside down, and is compared to what is actually going in the girl's life.

The music of the song is not at par with the blockbuster bands, however, being a debut album it is not as crappy as well. The video can be seen with the members of the band actually doing a gig inside a room of a house with drums and guitars. There is an intense focus on the guitars being played in the song; however, the video can be seen as stereotypical of how rock bands play the guitar. Nonetheless, looking at the age of the guys that form the band, with the mean age of the band being 21 at the time of the video, the song and the video is pretty amazing.

The camera techniques used in the songs are very dramatic as everything in the video ...
