Policeman or cops are the center point for media outlets all over the world. The portrayal of cops in media is as old as the history of media. Whether films or television programs, cops are extensively portrayed in media, representing good, bad and both characters (Feasey, 2008). The trend of portraying cops as heroes and villain is not new in Hollywood. In fact, film audiences all over the world love to watch the involvement of action, thrill, fun and lifestyle of a cop. Streamlining the above argument with the objectives of the paper, the focus of this study can be defined as to carry out an investigation regarding portrayal of cops in media outlets. Specifying the angle of the study this paper will investigate the portrayal of cops in the movie “The Other Guys.”

Discussion and Analysis

The movie “The Other Guys” started with a scene showing two New York City cops (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson) chasing to recover quarter pounds of illegal drugs had finally accomplished their task but by damaging personal properties worth of millions. This portrays that cops in United States intends to catch the culprits or suspects no matter what cost it incur. However, the movie The Other Guys is not about these two detectives, but about the other guys Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Mark Wahlberg was the cop who is impatient due to which he has been transferred to work on desk, but deep down he wanted some real action, catching and kicking some bad guys and get recognition (Scott, 2010).
