Introduction

The topic requires a movie review on the issue based on the Civil Rights conditions that existed in USA in 1960s. The movie that has been selected for this topic is “The Help” released in the year 2011. The movie was based on the novel written by Kathryn Stockett in the year 2009. The movie was directed by Tate Taylor. The film involved the character of a young white woman known as Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan and the relationship she had with two black maids known as Aibleen Clark and Minny Jackson during the Civil Rights era. The period that has been covered in this film is of 1960s. Skeeter is basically a journalist who made a decision to write a book from the maid's point of view. The situation related to the racism at that was covered in detail in the movie.

Review of the Movie

The first character whose name was Aibileen Clark, performed by the actress known as Viola Davis was a fifty year old black maid who had spent her life for raising white children and also recently lost her only son. The second character whose name was Minny Jackson, performed by the actress known as Octavia Spencer is another black maid. Aibileen's best friend was the person whose outspokenness has led to her the removal of the job. The best friend also had built reputation for being a difficult employee but she had made her role by having phenomenal cooking skills. The central character of the movie known as Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan performed by the actress known as Emma Stone is a young white woman who had recently moved back to her family's plantation after having a graduation degree from Ole Miss. She found out that her favorite maid who had worked during her childhood had quit her job when she was not in the country. This was not acceptable to the Skeeter that her maid has left without even informing her. The name of the maid was Constantine performed by the actress known as Cicely Tyson. Skeeter was very concerned and worried related to this particular development. Skeeter is not married as compare to her friends who are all married and are having a family life. Skeeter has a degree and wanted to start her career as a writer. The entire movie revolved around Skeeter and her maids that highlighted the racism problem in USA at that time. The upcoming paragraphs will cover all the Civil Rights issues that existed at that time in USA during the 1960s (Bonomi 110). There has been considerable ideological diversity among African American thinkers and leaders becomes a provocative idea because of the ways in which black intellectual production has been understudied in histories of the civil rights era with the movement toward social history in the last thirty years.
